The original mission of the Ohio River Greenway was to provide a common linkage between the Communities of Jeffersonville, Clarksville, and New Albany, Indiana along the banks of the Ohio River and to promote a passive recreational environment for river access, while allowing each community to construct riverfront amenities to enhance the overall project.

This effort was al centered around a Master Plan developed in 2002.

Recently, the Ogle Foundation , a private foundation in Jeffersonville, Indiana and working in coordination with select community leaders from Jeffersonville, Clarksville and New Albany formed a steering committee. Included in this effort is 21st Century Parks with the purpose to help select a firm that would update the current Greenway Master Plan, dated 2002, and bring it current in moving the effort forward. This project has been identified as Greenway 2040.

The Ogle Foundation has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ohio River Greenway Commission to fund and oversee this private and independent effort which includes, selecting a firm, working through the completion of a new and updated Master Plan as well as provide communications efforts to the business and communities at large as the process unfolds.

It is the intent of the Ogle Foundation that, once the Master Plan is updated and the process completed, to turn the Master Plan and its recommendations back over to the Ohio River Greenway Commission for execution.
